Market Report
Courtesy of Simon Tubbs, Saxon Agriculture
Markets have been quiet, and largely confined to nearby trade as consumer buyers will only cover any immediate needs.
There is also some additional old crop cereals from farm appearing for sale as stores need to be cleared. This applies particularly to barley since a reduced malting offtake is delaying collection. Values have therefore slipped over the last month, although underlying Organic premiums remain supported.
The long hot spell seen in the South East is also of concern to many spring drilled crop areas - any showers have been localised, with many farms not seeing meaningful rainfall since early March. Haulage and freight stay sharply higher from February whilst the Iran conflict remains unresolved.
Sellers are therefore reluctant to engage with new crop trade, whilst buyers also wait for any sale activity before committing to any purchases.
